A manufacturing specification for a metal zipper must identify both the structural metal and the visible finish. Terms such as nickel, antique and gold may describe appearance rather than the base tooth alloy.

The zipper should be approved with the real fabric, lining, sewing operation and any garment-wash or finishing process.

Base Alloy and Tooth Finish

The specification should list:

• Base tooth material: Brass, copper alloy, aluminium or another verified metal
• Visible finish: Natural brass, nickel, antique, black nickel, copper or another documented finish
• Tape material and color: Listed independently
• Slider and puller: Construction and finish listed independently

This prevents a metallic nylon chain or metal puller from being incorrectly entered as a genuine metal-tooth zipper.

Product Acceptance Rules

A product should enter the metal zipper category only when its tooth material is confirmed as metal. The title alone is not sufficient.

If the description identifies the chain as nylon coil, the product must remain in the coil category even when the title uses “metal,” “metallic” or “metal puller.”

Closed-End, Separating and Two-Way Metal Zippers

Closed-end zippers suit jeans, trousers, skirts, pockets and fixed-bottom bags.

Open-end separating zippers allow both tapes to detach and suit jacket or coat fronts.

Two-way separating zippers also have two slider bodies and lower-opening operation. They should be listed as a separate function rather than combined with ordinary separating zippers.

Wash and Finish Approval

• Use the real fabric, dye and wash process.
• Inspect tooth finish and tape color after processing.
• Verify that the slider still operates smoothly.
• Do not claim bleach, chemical or corrosion resistance without documentation.
• Record the approved tooth alloy and finish in the production specification.

Pre-Production Checklist

• Is the tooth material documented as metal?
• Is the finish listed separately from the alloy?
• Does the functional length match the pattern?
• Does the slider operate across the full zipper?
• Do closed teeth remain engaged behind the slider?
• Does the tape remain flat after sewing?
• Does the bottom hardware remain stable under repeated operation?

Common Manufacturing Errors

• Do not classify metallic coil as genuine metal chain.
• Do not combine tooth material and textile tape in one material field.
• Do not treat nickel or gold as a base alloy without documentation.
• Do not assume slider compatibility from the size number alone.
• Do not describe every separating zipper as two-way.
• Do not approve wash performance without a production sample.
• Do not expect a new slider to repair missing or bent metal teeth.
